Welcome to private instruction at the Lexington Ice Center. Each of our coaches is committed to your success and joy of skating. All coaches are independent contractors and set their own rates and schedules. Below is a list of available instructors.
 

Ben Logan

Ben is a US Figure Skating Gold Medalist in Moves in the Field. He has also passed the Pre-Gold Dance, Novice Free Dance and Intermediate Free Skating tests.  A former Regional and Sectional competitor with nearly 20 years of coaching experience, Ben is a member of US Figure Skating and has coached numerous students through their Senior Moves in the Field, Senior Free Skate, and Gold Dance tests.  Ben also teaches power skating for UK Hockey and has worked with hockey players of all levels on improving their speed and skating skills.  Ben holds a BA from Asbury College in Philosophy and Classics and a MA in Philosophy from the University of Kentucky. He teaches free skating, moves in the field, dance and free dance, choreography and power skating for figure skating and hockey.  Lesson rate $76/hr.

Emily Manning

Emily Manning is a double USFSA Gold medalist in Senior Move in The Field and Adult Gold Moves in the Field. She as well has passed Juvenile Freestyle, and Pre Silver Ice Dancing. She has competed at regionals and has 14 years of competitive skating experience. Emily was TSFC’s 2013 Skater of The Year and 2013 Tester of The Year. Her coaching specialties are choreography, freestyle jumps and spins, as well as off ice jump conditioning and strength training and power hockey skating.  From competitive skating to recreational, she believes in creating a strong foundation for skaters of all levels that fosters growth in every area of the sport. Rate $66/hr., $33/30 min.

June Warta

As a former member of The Professional Skaters Association, June has completed the Basic Accreditation Exam, Oral Registered Rating Exams in Freestyle and Group, as well as Certified Program Director. In addition, she completed the Registered, Certified, Senior and Master Sports Science and Medicine Exams with PSA. She has over 30 years experience directing and coaching both US Figure Skating and Ice Skating Institute students and programs, and is the current Skating Director at Lexington Skating Academy. She is the owner of the Ice Pinkie pro shop, icepinkie.com. June is a ceritified ISI Silver Test Judge, Member of US Skating, Thoroughbred Figure Skating Club and the Positive Coaching Alliance. Other teaching experience includes, Substitute Teacher for Fayette County Schools and 11 years of home schooling her four children. June teaches beginner through advanced students with a special emphasis on artistry, posture and alignment, freestyle jumps, spins and choreography. Beginning basic skills students through advance competitors are welcomed. June enjoys writing, family road trips, volunteering and creating special events for her students to perform.

Alexandre Boikov

Alex has 22 years of hockey playing experience including stints in the NHL with the Nashville Predators, the AHL with the Kentucky Thoroughblades, Rochester Americans and Milwaukee Admirals and 14 years in Russia playing in the KHL, mostly recently in 2013-14 with Dynamo Moskva. The last 10 years, he's been an Assistant Coach throughout the KHL for four different teams as well as for the Russian Selects, Russia U20 and Russian International teams. Alex currently resides in Lexington.

Beverly Durborow

Beverly Durborow is a member of the US Figure Skating Association and the Professional Skaters Association. She has a Foundations of Coaching Certificate. She has achieved US Figure Skating Adult levels in: Gold Moves in the Field, Pre-Gold Ice Dance, and Silver Freestyle. She is a competitive figure skater in Ice Dance, participating in USFS Adult Championships for the past several years.  Beverly is the Director of TFSC's Nutcracker on Ice.  Education: Beverly has 2 Master of Science Degrees, one in Physical Therapy from UAB, and another in Health and Human Sciences from LSU.  She is a licensed Physical Therapist, and a Certified Instructor of Pilates/Mats.  Skating instruction offered: Freestyle, Moves in the Field, Ice Dance, Synchronized Skating and presentation and choreography.  For private instruction in Ice Skating, or Off-Ice Conditioning and Pilates, lesson rates are: $33/30 min., $22/20 min. Katherine Ruch

Katherine has completed Adult Silver Moves in the Field, Adult Bronze Freestyle and Pre-Bronze Dance through US Figure Skating. She has almost 20 years of skating experience and over 10 years of coaching experience. Knowing that it's never too early or too late to find joy in skating, Katherine has worked with recreational skaters from preschoolers to adults. Katherine teaches free skate, moves in the field, and basic skills. She especially enjoys working with students on spins, footwork, and showcase programs. Katherine earned her B.A. from Furman University in Communication Studies and is an Assistant Teacher for Pre-K at Sayre School.

Rate: $25/30 mins., $17/20 mins.

Kasey Reynolds

Kasey has achieved Novice Moves in The Field 21+, and Adult Gold Moves in The Field, Adult Silver Free Skate and Bronze Ice Dance. She is a member of US Figure Skating, and she enjoys working with skaters of all ages on freestyle, moves in the field, and basic skating skills. She especially enjoys working with younger skaters to help them get started and grow in the sport.
